2011 starts as it means to continue…

R.I.P Jo… So, here we are, well into 2011, and the main local news is that journalists are beating up the police investigating the murder of Jo Yeates because it’s now THREE WEEKS since she disappeared (and at least two since she was murdered) and they haven’t charged anyone yet…. RA summer exhibition

So we went to see the RA summer exhibition.  Once again, the best bits were the ‘public’ submissions.  I may be a bit intolerant, but I think that most of the Academician’s own submissions were self-indulgent claptrap.  Of course, there were a few good ones, but I really do think… Continue reading →

Last shuttle flight in January 2011

NASA have announced that the last shuttle flight will be in December 2010, although there are reports that it will slip to January 2011.  Then what?  The shuttle replacement (which was, effectively, a glorified Apollo capsule) has been binned and there are no plans to provide an alternative. I think… Continue reading →

More on the CR-V and welcome to Greenflag

So, after several weeks, we got the word that the CR-V was fixed.  It was going to cost us a smidge under £1K.  Eek! Drove up to Colchester in the ‘2nd car’ and collected CR-V.  All seemed well.  Off to the Smoke for a weekend at Brett’s workshop.  Back to… Continue reading →

Toyota woes.

There’s a story circulating that Toyota’s unexpected acceleration problems may be caused by cosmic rays.  Seems like BS to me: Cosmic rays cause random problems with computers.  It would be extremely odd if any significant number of these caused a car to accelerate uncontrollably.  For this to happen, the hardware… Continue reading →

Honda CR-V woes and worse from the RAC

Well, it’s been a hell of a week!  Problems started last Friday, when we arrived at Mo’s mum for a long weekend.  A warning light came on on our Honda CR-V: ‘engine fault’.  Great.  Limped to Inchcapes in Colchester who diagnosed a faulty Glow Plug control unit/relay.  None in stock. … Continue reading →

Spring has boinged… And the birds are tweeting.

Yes, it’s spring again, and the Chaffinches are squabbling.  After the rather dreadful winter (spiced up by regular invasions of rats driven to desperation by the cold – they loved our compost heap – and the little gifts I left them…) life is slowly returning to the garden: this morning,… Continue reading →

Anish Kapoor at the RA

The other week, we decided to visit the Royal Academy in Piccadilly, London in order to view the Anish Kapoor sculpture exhibition. Outside, Anish had built a very large sculpture consisting of a large number of reflective spheres linked together. It was truly spectacular and we spent a while photographing… Continue reading →

OK, so there we were in the conference hall during the last break, having just had the sh*t scared out of us by Scott Letourneau’s pitch about the dangers of doing business in the US (and how he’d teach us to avoid them in exchange for a sum marginally less… Continue reading →

Spomments

I noticed on the New Scientist web-site this morning that every article had been posted with a spomment – a spam comment I Wish You A Happy Shopping . Tue Nov 17 01:05:27 GMT 2009 by lisa I reported a couple as off-topic, but there are dozens of them.  So. … Continue reading →
